I am unsure what the SS stands for but on a Dolomite with Limited Slip Differential has the Suffix 'S' after engine number. Also DM means its a 1500cc as DG = 1300. "HE" stands for high compression
On, dare i say it a MG "S" or "SS" suffix on the engine number normally indicates a service exchange unit from the plant! which is better known as a "Gold Seal" If your engine is a 1500 which was shared with the MG Midget and Spitfire, could there be a link ????
