We are delighted to announce that we now have 37 cars signed up for the 4 Provinces in a Classic. That leaves just 3 spaces remaining for this great event, so best be quick! As well as 37 drivers we have an additional 20 passengers who are going to make the journey around Ireland's 4 Provinces.
Our first pre event collection took place on Sunday April 10th and our thanks to collectors and contributors at Swords Classic Car Show and indeed the 15 TCOC club members who turned out for the event sporting our fantastic 4 Provinces blue T shirts! We hope to arrange a collection at Dundrum shopping centre in May and at Frascati shopping centre in July

Thanks for you support
Alan

Well i took the plunge to the sunny south east last weekend for the Mt Leinster show/run.1st time on a long solo run in her and glad to report all went well(thank Johnny Flynn).Roof down and 8am Saterday start and down to New Ross for 9 45.Made very welcome by the Wexford classic and sports car club and allocated space for show. This weekend was run for Aware so all donated 25euros to cause and this included Sun run around.I have to say the weather helped but as  freindlier bunch of petrol heads you could meet.
Apart from mine there were a couple of older trs,i have posted a couple of photos. At the end of the day i was invited to Corcorans pub for light refreshments! i was worried about leaving the car out at night but no worries a member of the club(PJ Who owns the tr in the photo)let me use a secure lock up for night. So off to the festivities and some time later with many new friends made, a light mist seemed to blur my vision(must have been a local problem!) so off the bed.
Sunday morning we gathered at 9 30 outside the pub for the start of the run.A collection of 200 cars turned up for this, everything from Ferraris,Porsches,Mustangs mk 1 and 2 escorts to beat the...... [ Read the rest of this story ]
Got the tr8 vrt,d yesterday.Made appointment in Greenhills very pleasant girl came out with the clipboard, check took 15 mins,no issues with not having chassis no on car itself, the original plate was ok.Also my body is a Californian one so had reflectors in rear wing,i just covered them in gaffer tape,no problem. She then took about another 15 mins and i had my new ZV plate. She said to give it a couple of working days before trying to tax it to let paperwork go through. No nct required(my 1st date registered is March 1980,built in 1979).Having heard all the horror srories about the process i come to the conclusion its just luck where you go and who you get.I have to say i could definitly recommend the Greenhills Office.
Anyway got my plate in Ashmore Interparts,They cost 30euros(bit of a shock).Went to my garage to fit them and removed the old plates. These were stuck on with double sided tape and left a load of residue, took lighter fluid to shift. What should have been a 10 min job took 40 mins.My advice drill and self tap, much cleaner way.
Anyway next job was to try the taunnau cover for the first time.Only then realised need to be a cross between a wrestler and a gynocoligi...... [ Read the rest of this story ]

The Triumph Classic Owners Club are celebrating the clubs 25th anniversary this year and as part of the celebrations I am organising a drive around Ireland covering the 4 Provinces from Sept 16th - 19th (Friday - Monday inclusive). The total journey will cover 1100 Km (720 Miles approx). The four day weekend drive is intended to raise badly needed funds for The Childrens Sunshine Home - Irelands only Hospice for Terminally ill Children (To put that in perspective - The UK has 42 such Hospices)
The Hospice is in the final stages of completing an extension to their original building but badly needs funds for specialised equipment / final room fitouts etc. As many  enthusiasts will remember we had a similar event 5 years ago (Top to Toe in a Triumph, Sept 2006) and raised €52k for Crumlin Childrens Hospital. Times have changed a bit since then so raising funds is a bigger challenge............but with the TCOC enth

When I purchased the Spitfire I was aware that the rear drivers side ride height was a little low, but this appears to be a pretty common issue on Spitfires. Its not a big deal but nonetheless an issue that needed to be looked at. The culprit was the rear leaf spring, 30 plus years of driving with mainly just a driver and no passenger had taken its toll on one side. While you can re temper the leafs I went down the replacement route. As luck would have a TCOC member had a low mileage 'fast road' spring available, a deal was struck and the spring was purchased.

Like the rest of this blog I am writing about this retrospectively, the spring was fitted Dec 2010 but I am only getting round to writing about it now. Indeed the the spring had sat in my garage for over 12 months prior to fitting; all the while my rear was getting that little bit lower and the handling began to feel a little wayward in the corners! So time to actually do something about! A little bit of research on the internet uncovered a nice article covering the replacement procedure plus a nice tip on the use of some nylon...... At last the front suspension on Stephen's car is sorted. In brief, a kerb was struck with some force during the icy weather in January, leaving the passenger side front wheel with an alarming amount of positive camber (sticking out at the top). No obvious damage was visible to the subframe or suspension wishbones, and adding /removing shims, changing various parts made no difference. The car handled  like it was on casters.
Some fresh thinking from Alan Quinn, combined with careful measuring, showed that the nearside wheel was nearly an inch further forward than the other side, and it was also the width of a finger nearer the edge of the wheel arch as well. This pointed to a displaced subframe, further probing discovered severe rot in the chassis leg to which the subframe is attached. At this point , I began to wonder was the body twisted as well! However, having consulted the entire first series of Mc Gyver, I decided to try and sort it. First task was to try to pull the subframe back into line. This was attempted using a scaffolding pole wedged behind a brick wall and a stout rope tied at one end to the subframe. Twisting the rope produced strange creaking noises from the

A few months ago the Spitfire went on tour to Moy Carn Lodge Shannonbridge near Ballinasloe. This was the longest journey yet for my Spitfire, so given my last long journey saw the demise of my wheel bearing I was a little nervous.
Fail to prepare then prepare to fail, came to mind, so all the fluids were checked including the hard to reach ones i.e. the rear diff and the gearbox. I have discovered that a piece of fuel line can be forced over the tube coming out of a bottle of gear oil and this makes filling those awkward areas a little easier. I also got a very large syringe from the local Glanbia co op which is handy for this job too. It seems the front input seal on the diff has seen better days so it was just as well I topped it up as it was a little low - that's another job for the winter nights. Everything else was tip top so I packed the bags and was ready for the off early on Saturday morning.

Saturday started out nice as I drove to Lucan to meet up with some other TCOC club members. We set off down the N4 heading off to Kilcock to meet up with another member - then the rain began. Now if you
